Abstract

This thesis is an investigation of Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation's attitudes towards the land and its management, and how these attitudes may be best addressed in a strategy implementing the land-related provisions of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation Final Agreement. This research was conducted over a two-month period during the summer of 1994 in Old Crow, Yukon. The criteria developed and recommended for inclusion in the Vuntut Gwitchin's implementation strategy identify a series of initiatives addressing local concerns regarding the land not recognized in the Agreement. These initiatives respond to community needs and abilities towards spirituality, social change, young people, communication, information, training and their participation on co-management committees.
