A Glimpse into the Bras d'Or Lakes 2023 CEPI Conference

ree

In the heart of Unama'ki (Cape Breton), the Bras d'Or Lakes Collaborative Environmental Planning Initiative (CEPI) recently hosted a thought-provoking conference that brought together Indigenous knowledge holders, scientists, and community members to explore the theme of "Etuaptmumk: Two-Eyed Seeing."

I wanted to share this on the Co-management Commons because so much of co-management is about using different knowledge systems and there is a lot of lessons that have emerged from the concept of Etuaptmumk.

The conference organizers did an exceptional job recording the event and sharing the slides so it is not to late for you as well. Plan some time, get a coffee, and visit their website.

The event showcased a diverse range of perspectives on the importance of integrating Indigenous and Western knowledge systems in environmental stewardship and resource management. I recommend the fire side chat with Elder Albert Marshall who has been a tireless advocate and educator on the topic of Etuaptmumk: Two-Eyed Seeing.

A big thank you to the Bras d'Or Lakes CEPI conference organizers for sharing the knowledge from this event. It demonstrates the power and spirit of Two-Eyed Seeing in fostering a more inclusive and sustainable future for the Bras d'Or Lakes region and beyond.
