ContINUITy: Mobilizing culture-based learning resources about wildlife for youth across the Eastern Arctic

Prepared for the Torngat Wildlife Plants & Fisheries Secretariat

The ContINUITy project is an initiative led by the Torngat Wildlife and Plants Co-Management Board. Its goal is to bring Inuit-led knowledge and stories about wildlife, such as caribou and polar bears, into the classrooms and lives of youth across Nunatsiavut and other parts of the Eastern Arctic.

It aims to reach youth by mobilizing the multimedia and educational resources previously developed through other Torngat-led projects: 1) the Paigitsiaguk Project, a Nunatsiavut-focused online resource for teachers with a range of learning kits about wildlife stewardship, 2) Nanuk Narratives, a documentary film series about Inuit knowledge of polar bears across Nunatsiavut, Nunavut, and Nunavik, and 3) HERD: Inuit Voices on Caribou, a research-based film about Inuit relationships with caribou in Labrador. While these projects individually have already been shared and distributed in various ways, the ContINUITy project is intentionally focused on mobilizing these educational resources for youth audiences.

Cloudberry is serving as a key implementation partner in the ContINUITy project, bringing its expertise in participatory media, educational program development, and knowledge mobilization to help achieve the project’s objectives. Specifically, Cloudberry is supporting with:

  • School Screenings and Events: Cloudberry is organizing and facilitating school-based screenings and guided discussions of the films and learning resources. These events provide a space for students to engage directly with Inuit-led stories, reflect on stewardship themes, and connect the content to their own experiences on the land.

  • Teacher Workshops: Cloudberry is working alongside Inuit curriculum experts to co-develop hands-on workshops that build teacher capacity to use ContINUITy’s learning materials—including films, lesson guides, and stewardship kits—in their classrooms.

  • Audio-Visual Production: Cloudberry is collaborating with Indigenous filmmakers to co-create additional short educational videos that highlight lived experiences and cultural knowledge of key species and stewardship practices.

  • Development of the ContINUITy Education Portal: Cloudberry is leading the design and development of an interactive, open-access online platform that will house the educational videos, teaching kits, and supporting resources created through the project. The portal will serve teachers, students, and community members across Inuit Nunangat, making it easy to access, explore, and contribute local knowledge and stories for years to come.

Through community communication events, teacher training and workshops, production of educational videos, and an open-access online learning portal, ContINUITy will help youth gain key skills and perspectives needed to care for their environment and uphold Inuit relationships with wildlife for generations to come.
