Abstract
The Porcupine Caribou Manag Board, established in the Yukon Territories, Canada, to monitor and manage threatened caribou populations, manages its resources through comanagement. Equal representation on the eight-member board is given to native and government interests. A consensus approach is used for decision making at the board level as well as in the community. The success of this approach is attributed to good communication, community meetings, media attention, consultations, and minimized paperwork.
